Obituary
Staples, Minnesota, 1907
Old Settler Gone: Another settler of this township who had reached his three score years and ten, heard the final summons last Friday morning, May 24th and entered into rest. Xavier Lapierre died last Friday morning after an illness that had been troubling him for some time, and all that medical skill could do was to relieve in a measure his suffering. It was known for some days previously that his final dissolution was near, so that his death was not unexpected to the anxious relatives. Funeral services were held from Sacred Heart church at this place Saturday afternoon, Rev. Goebel officiating, and the remains laid to rest at Evergreen Hill cemetery. A large number of sympathizing friends followed the remains to the grave. Deceased was a native of Canada and 73 years of age. In the early 50's settled in Rice county, this state, and resided there until coming to Staples seven years ago. He is survived by his wife [Justine Benjamin Stone] and twelve children, eight sons and four daughters. Four of the sons reside in this vicinity, also two daughters. Mrs. Jos. Demars and Mrs. Jos. Henry. One daughter, Mrs. Amos Burke, and several of the sons, reside in North Dakota and one daughter and a son are located in Rice County.
